I'm going to disallow comments on most of (or all) of the posts in this community, since it is mainly to get some information across. The main reason being is that if you comment on this journal, it counts toward [info]commentwhores_ comment rankings, and that's not good.

I guess this is just a general update. Things are going good in the community, and I'm going to UPDATE the way the rankings are shown. For example:

Asterisk (*) denotes how much percentage (%) of last post was created. So, if Post #2 was about to be issued, then it would be the percentage for Post #1.

LW = Last Week

This is basically still a BETA process, but I'm thinking it'll give users a much more detailed way of seeing their progress. All of the column variables in the table are subject to change, as these are just what came to mind. Also, the totals listed above are NOT at all true--I just used myself and the moderator as examples. The reason for doing it this way would be as follows:

Rank TW: current ranking
Rank LW: to see if you got better or worse
Username: duh
Total Last Post: to see how much you progressed, in comparison to the next column
Grand total: duh
# Contributed: to see how much of the previous post you actually took part in

I may also put a "comments contributed to last post," instead of having you do the math. I'd like to open this up for discussion, but I'm just clearly stating what I'll like to do. Actually, the best thing to do would be to post a reply to the first few comments on the lastest post in [info]commentwhores_, to [info]pianodude34, that way I'll see it, as will others.

This new way of ranking will be established after Post #4 is finished.

Gmail: Labels [Jul. 31st, 2005|01:00 pm]
Instead of using HOTMAIL for our message retrieval system to calibrate the stats, I'm changing it to GMAIL. It's a little more efficient, and it'll benefit us more in the long run.

I've given the following users "Labels" in Gmail, so therefore if you comment on whichever will be the new post (in whichever community), your comments will be counted:

Sorry, but the email account commentmod@msn.com is only allowed 15 custom filters, until upgraded to a paid account ($19.95 for 1 year), in which it'll only receive 36 custom filters. Don't worry, your comments will still count, they'll just have to be moved to your folder manually.

BETA Testing Update [Jul. 30th, 2005|11:51 am]
Okay, I have just tested out the following usernames:

pint_of_shame *
maxxchaos
rooneysyogolate
pianodude34
xxalyoop42xx

However I noticed something with the underscore names (_). My custom filters can't allow their folders to be called that, so for instance, all [info]pints emails will only go to her folder if they contain "pint" in the "from name", if that makes sense. Sadly, if there's someone else, like pint_of_joy, their comments will go to the same folder. I highly doubt that, though.

So if anyone who is reading this will be commenting in [info]_commentwhores and your username is NOT listed above, comment here BEFORE you start commenting on Post #15 and your comments will all be counted in your own folder.

New Commenting Stats - IMPORTANT [Jul. 29th, 2005|08:57 pm]
Hello, commenters! This is one of the current mods of [info]_commentwhores here to create an idea that will hopefully turn out pretty well. Here's the sitch:

Earlier tonight, [info]xxalyoop42xx, [info]maxxchaos, [info]pints, [info]rooneysyogolate, and myself were all commenting together when Aly brought up the topic: "I really wish we could see our comment stats." Dwelling on the idea, I got to thinking about how Kristie, the original maintainer, tracked her comments, and started brainstorming.

Throughout posting over 1,400 comments between the five of us tonight, I had figured out some great ideas, and one of them was to create an email address specifically dedicated to the comment posts. Thus, the only way to make that work would be to create a new LJ account in general: [info]commentmod.

Posting with this journal in [info]_commentwhores will make all comments go directly to this journal's email which I have just made: commentmod@msn.com (feel free to email w/any questions, too). Once the emails get there, I will then give each user a specific folder, and from then on out all your comments will be received in the respective folders, and I can easily check how many comments each user has.

With this idea, I'm sure people will want to comment more, and we'll easily be able to make a 5,000-comment post disappear in a few days. Not only that, but I'll open the community up for discussion, suggestions, etc., all for the better of what can be a better commentwhoring experience.

As soon as we finish up Post #14, the following post (#15) will be made with [info]commentmod, and so the commenting will begin. I'll make another post after this asking EVERYONE who will participate in [info]commentwhores to please let me know, so I will know to make you a folder. This is the only way recording comments was going to work, so I hope this makes sense to everyone.

This is the most up-to-date and official information on this matter, so feel free to friend this username (recommended) to always be current on how things are going. Suggestions are welcome here, but don't get to commentwhoring, as that's for [info]_commentwhores, heh.
